What's a MOOC?

While browsing TedTalk for a video to fill a bit of empty time in my life I came across Why MOOCs still matter by Anant Agarwal.  Well, the first thought that came to my mind was, what's a MOOC?

A MOOC is a massive open online course.  As it turns out these courses are free, online, and are offered by institutions that might just surprise you.
